Network Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) / Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS)
Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), also known as Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS), monitor network and/or system activities for malicious behavior. The main functions of intrusion prevention systems are to identify, log, block/stop, and report malicious activity. A distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. When a server is overloaded with traffic or connection requests, new connections can no longer be accepted. DDoS detection/prevention systems use a broad array of technologies to detect and mitigate the effects of these attacks.
